Michael B. Jordan Shouts Out ‘Sinners’ During Amazon Upfront Appearance
Michael B. Jordan, appearing at the Amazon upfront Monday to tout his work on what he called the “Creed-verse,” began with a shout-out to Sinners.
Drawing one of the biggest ovations of any star walking the Beacon Theatre stage, Jordan said, “I want to say thank you to everyone who’s been supporting Sinners in theaters right now.”
The nod was unusual in that Warner Bros. released the Ryan Coogler-directed hit. In fact, it was former Warner Bros President of Production Courtenay Valenti, now Head of Film, Streaming and Theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, who introduced Jordan.
“Michael is involved in a number of upcoming projects including directing, producing and starring in our theatrical film The Thomas Crown Affair,” she said. “He’s also at the heart of one of the crown jewels in the Amazon MGM library – Creed. Most importantly, it’s a franchise that has captured the hearts of and inspired millions around the world.”
Jordan plugged the long-in-the-works TV extension of the Creed movie universe.
Prime Video has ordered Delphi, a drama series executive produced by Creed movie franchise star Michael B. Jordan and Marco Ramirez, who will serve as showrunner.
Jordan revealed that Ryan Coogler had in fact pitched the idea of an Adonis Creed franchise to him before the pair shot their first film together, Fruitvale Station.
“Fun fact: the first film we did was called Fruitvale Station and something really, really unique and special happened in that movie. Before we shot one frame for that movie, he pitched to me the idea for Adonis Creed, that’s where the genesis of this entire thing kind of started. Slipping into those gloves as Adonis Creed, has been nothing short of transformative, it changed my life. We’re just getting started with the Creed-verse,” he said.
“The series that takes us back to where it all began. What I love about this story is that it stays true to what the Rocky and Creed franchise is all about: hard work, determination, fighting for something bigger than yourself. It’s about family, the ones we’re born into and the ones that we created. We’re building something special here, and I’m excited to introduce you to new fighters that will walk into the Delphi. As always, in Creed we say, one step, one round, one punch at a time.”
