Michelle Williams & Mike Faist To Star In Thomas Kail Staging Of ‘Anna Christie’ Off Broadway

Michelle Williams will star as the title character in an Off Broadway revival of Eugene O’Neill’s Anna Christie this fall opposite Mike Faist in a production directed by Hamilton‘s Thomas Kail.

The revival is part of the fall 2025 season at Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse. Anna Christie begins performances on November 25 and runs through February 1, 2026.

The production was announced today on the St. Ann’s Warehouse website.

The synopsis: “In 1921, Anna Christie, a reformed prostitute, walks into a saloon on South Street and snaps one of the great lines in theater history: ‘Gimme a whiskey—ginger ale on the side. And don’t be stingy, baby.’ With that entrance, Eugene O’Neill cracks open a new age of modern drama. In this new production, directed by Tony Award winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton), Emmy Award winner and five-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams takes on one of the boldest roles in the American canon. ”

Williams, whose recent film and TV credits include The Fablemans, Dying For Sex and Fosse/Verdon, has appeared on Broadway twice, including an acclaimed performance as Sally Bowles in the 2014 revival of Cabaret and, two years later, in a production of David Harrower’s play Blackbird opposite Jeff Daniels.

Faist, perhaps most widely known for his role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and the film Challengers, most recently appeared on stage in the 2023 West End production of Brokeback Mountain, in which he played Jack Twist. He made his Broadway debut in 2012’s Newsies, and he was Tony-nominated for his featured role of Connor Murphy in 2016’s Dear Evan Hansen.

The creative team of Anna Christie will include movement by Steven Hoggett, music by Nicholas Britell, set design by Christine Jones and Bret Banakis, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Natasha Katz, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

The fall season at St. Ann’s Warehouse, located in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, will also include Weather Girl, a new dark comedy by Brian Watkins starring Julia McDermott and directed by Tyne Rafaeli. Running from September 16 to October 12, the play is produced by Francesca Moody Productions, the production company behind the theatrical stagings of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer.

McDermott plays Stacey, a California “weather girl,” described in the synopsis as an “oversexed and underpaid harbinger of our dying planet.”

“But today,” the description continues, “her regular routine of wildfires, prosecco, and teeth whitening descends into a scorched earth catastrophe, before she discovers something that will save us all.”

McDermott originated the role at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
