MPSE Golden Reel Awards: ‘Wicked’, ‘Dune: Part Two’, ‘Wild Robot’ Among Film Winners – Full List
Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Saturday Night, The Wild Robot and Emilia Pérez were among the film winners at the Motion Picture Sound Editors‘ 72nd Golden Reel Awards, which were handed out Sunday night at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.
FX’s Shōgun, Disney+’ The Penguin, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building and Netflix’s Ripley and Arcane took TV awards during the ceremony, which honors for outstanding achievement in sound editing, sound design, music editing and foley artistry in film, TV and gaming. Universal’s Wicked scooped the marquee prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music Editing – Feature Motion Picture, with Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two picking up the awards for Feature Effects/Foley. Columbia Pictures’ Saturday Night, won for Feature Dialogue / ADR, and Emilia Pérez received the Feature International award.
The Wild Robot won the Feature Animation prize to continue its impressive awards-season run that included dominating the Annie Awards. Netflix’s now-wrapped Arcane swept the TV categories at the Annies and also took the Golden Reel for Non-Theatrical Animation.
MPSE also presented a pair of honorary awards at Sunday’s ceremony hosted by Patton Oswalt: Oscar winner and Yellowstone alum Kevin Costner received the Filmmaker Award, and Emmy-nominated supervising sound editor Greg Hedgepath was given the Career Achievement Award.
The sound editors group invited firefighters to attend the gala as special guests with the audience honoring them for their heroic efforts during the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Oppenheimer was a double winner at last year’s Golden Reel Awards, en route to winning Best Sound, Best Picture and four other statuettes at the 96th Academy Awards.
