NBA draft: Pick order, projections, how to watch

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Dallas Mavericks plan to plant their Flagg in Barclays Center when the 2025 NBA draft begins June 25.

The Mavs won the draft lottery May 12 despite long odds, 1.8%, to earn the first pick, and presumably they’ll grab Duke’s Cooper Flagg, a one-and-done superstar for the Blue Devils that many expect to be an impact player in the league immediately. They’ll need a player like that after trading 5-time all-star Luka Doncic to the Lakers in the middle of the season, and as Kyrie Irving recovers from a torn ACL.

How to watch the 2025 NBA draft

  • Round 1 (Picks 1-30): June 25, 7 p.m. CDT on ABC and ESPN
  • Round 2 (Picks 21-59): June 26, 7 p.m. CDT on ESPN

According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, the Mavs had a private workout with Flagg on Tuesday and don’t plan on bringing anyone else in.

The rest of the potential draft lottery picks are fairly intriguing, and that includes Texas guard Tre Johnson. He averaged nearly 20 points per game for the Longhorns in his freshman season, leading the Southeastern Conference in scoring. He shot almost 43% from the field and nearly 40% from 3-point range with an effective field goal percentage of 51.1%.

Givony has Johnson projected to go to the Jazz at No. 5 overall, which would make him the highest draft pick from Texas since Cleveland grabbed Tristan Thompson at No. 4 overall in 2011.

The Spurs have two picks in the first round, Nos. 2 and 14. Givony thinks they’ll take Rutgers guard Dylan Harper at No. 2 and 6-foot-11 Frenchman Joan Beringer to conclude the lottery pick portion of the first round. It’s safe to say that the Spurs have had pretty good fortune drafting French players with Tony Parker and Victor Wembanyama.
