New charge filed against son of Buc-ee's co-founder

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The son of a Buc-ee’s co-founder, previously indicted on invasive visual recording charges, is now facing an accusation of child pornography possession, according to a Travis County arrest warrant obtained by KXAN.

Mitchell Wasek, 29, is being charged with a third-degree felony offense of possession or promotion of child pornography, with a $50,000 bond.

KXAN reached out to an attorney representing Wasek and requested a comment on the new charge. This story will be updated when we receive a response.

According to court records, detectives with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant during their initial investigation into allegations Wasek had secretly recorded people in the bedrooms and bathrooms of homes owned by his family. The search warrant led to the seizure of several visual recording and data storage devices.

In May 2024, a Travis County grand jury returned six separate indictments, charging Wasek with 21 counts of felony invasive recording. Those cases remain pending in district courts.

As it investigated, TCSO also found “numerous images” of sexually explicit material involving subjects who appeared to be prepubescent during a review of the content on the devices, records state.

TCSO’s detective submitted the images to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to be compared with known victims in its database, which identified a juvenile female age 6-8 years old, according to the arrest warrant.

The juvenile victim was linked to a federal investigation conducted by the FBI that led to the suspect who recorded the juvenile being convicted of two counts of production of child pornography, one count of distribution of child pornography, and another count for possessing the content, records show.

The FBI confirmed the juvenile victim was 7-years-old when these images were produced and illegally distributed on the internet.

According to Travis County Jail records, Wasek is not currently in custody or has not been arrested yet.
