Selena Gomez’s ‘Blood Moon Mani’ Is Perfect for Spooky Season
Selena Gomez has traded her angelic bridal nails for a bold fall favorite, and it’s an ideal shade for spooky season.
Tom Bachik, Gomez’s go-to nail artist, shared the singer’s latest look, a “Blood Moon Mani.” She wore the moody pop of red with a silky all-black ensemble at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women conference—a switch up from the ethereal white lace and minimalistic nails we’ve seen on her recently.
To get the look, Bachik says that he used Aprés Nail’s shade Blood Moon on Gel-X Natural Coffin Tips, which he “softened up a bit” to achieve a custom shape. He then sealed the color with a glossy topcoat from his own product line. The final look is similar to the “Bordeaux Baddie” manicure he recently gave Jennifer Lopez, and for a celebrity nail trend, this solid mani is super easy to re-create at home.

Earlier in the fall, we saw a massive surge of “toasted nails”—a trend coined by Bachik and made viral by clients like Selena Gomez and Margot Robbie. Bachik told us that in addition to the warm, shimmering effects that characterize the understated-meets-elegant toasted look, natural nail shapes are on the rise: “Nail shapes are trending shorter and more square, which is interesting because normally, as we transition into fall and winter, nails get longer,” he said.
Although the season had a more minimalist start, we’re all remembering why we love long nails in vampy fall shades. And with Halloween right around the corner, a blood-toned mani is a perfect subtle nod to the holiday.
A true seasonal staple, the dark red color family “pairs well with the leaves turning, and those tones—marigolds and burnt oranges—look stunning with it,” celebrity nail stylist Elle Gerstein previously told Glamour. “It’s very rich and jewel-toned. It could also look stunning with a blushy pink and anything with gold detailing. It really goes from the fall to the holiday.” If you’re ready for a switch-up from the plethora of nude nail trends on your feed, a rich, dark red, like burgundy, oxblood, or merlot, is always a good idea for fall.
