Stylist Phillip Bloch Documentary Project In The Works

EXCLUSIVE: Production is underway on Phillip Bloch AF: Always Fashionable, a documentary about stylist, fashion designer and author Phillip Bloch, the man who has famously styled Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lopez, Will Smith, the late Michael Jackson, the late River Phoenix and more.

HenDar Media, an independent production and media management company, is behind the project. The film, said to be in early production, “will feature exclusive archival footage, behind-the-scenes glimpses of [Bloch’s] legendary styling sessions, and candid interviews with the celebrities, designers, and industry leaders he has influenced,” according to a release.

Bloch began his career as a model, working with Yves Saint-Laurent, Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Galliano and other leading designers, then worked at Studio 54 in New York before becoming a stylist in the 1990s.

“The documentary will offer a look at Bloch’s transformation from a young creative and model in New York and Paris to the visionary who redefined red-carpet glamour for Hollywood’s elite to his latest mission: revitalizing American manufacturing through a coalition of ‘smart factories’ designed to modernize the garment industry,” notes the release.

“Phillip is a true Renaissance man,” the release continues, “who has been at the center of culture for decades, yet his most significant work—his humanitarian efforts and his fight for sustainable, domestic production—is often what the public sees least. This story brings the full scope of his journey.”

At last month’s New York Fashion Week, Bloch transformed his Omniscient Things Collection runway show into “a peaceful act of civil disobedience,” showcasing the luxurious vegan faux furs and sourced luxe cashmere and lace collection with models holding protest signs and placards speaking out against the killing of unarmed protesters by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

“I’ve lived my life with few regrets,” Bloch said in a statement. “It feels like starting over… It’s just me, my creativity, and my faith.”

HenDar Media produces and champions independent feature films and documentaries “with emphasis on diverse stories and unrepresented voices.”
