Texas A&M's Reveille X has eye removed after glaucoma diagnosis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) – The beloved mascot and First Lady of Aggieland had to have her right eye removed after a glaucoma diagnosis.
Texas A&M University President General (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III issued a statement on Wednesday morning, saying that under the watchful eye of Reveille X’s Mascot Corporals, it came to the university’s attention she had been experiencing some discomfort and cloudiness in her right eye. This issue unfortunately progressed.
During a recent check-up, Miss Rev was diagnosed with glaucoma. At the recommendation of Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital veterinarians, Miss Rev underwent surgery to relieve any discomfort.
President Welsh said that during surgery, the veterinary team discovered signs of abnormal tissue and removed her eye out of an abundance of caution. The tissue was sent to an ocular pathologist for evaluation, which is standard practice.
President Welsh said Miss Rev came through the surgery successfully, has been discharged and is resting. She will take a brief hiatus from engagements as she fully recovers.
According to her veterinary team, Miss Rev is expected to be back this fall.
