Tiger Woods Arrested For DUI After Florida Rollover Crash

Pro golf star Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover crash Friday near his home in Jupiter, FL, and was arrested on the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Woods, 50, was uninjured in the crash, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, who gave a press conference this afternoon. Woods, who lives on Jupiter Island, is now in jail; there are two charges, both misdemeanors.

According to Budensiek, the crash occurred just before 2 p.m. ET when Woods’ black Land Rover overtook a truck hauling a trailer on a two-lane road with a 30 mph speed limit, eventually clipping it as the trailer was pulling to the side to avoid the speeding SUV. Woods’ vehicle flipped and skidded to a stop, with the driver’s door pinned against the ground.

Woods was able to escape through the passenger side, the sheriff said. Officers on the scene said he “exemplified signs of impairment” and administered road tests including a breathalyzer test, which showed he had no alcohol in his system. He was eventually arrested and taken into custody when he refused a urine test.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash comes just more than five years after Woods was involved in a serious rollover crash in Los Angeles, when his car went off the road going more than 80 mph and down an embankment in Pacific Palisades. He suffered severe injuries and later said his leg was in danger of being amputated.

That marked the latest in a string of major injuries that have derailed Woods’ golf career. Because of various ailments — several back surgeries, ACL and Achilles tendon injuries, and more — he hasn’t played in a PGA Tour event since 2024. He has 82 tour victories, tied for the most ever, and 17 career major championships, second only to Jack Nicklaus.

In 2017, Woods was arrested for DUI in Palm Beach County, FL and was found to have multiple medications in his system. He said they were related to treat pain from one of his seven back surgeries. He eventually pleaded guilty to reckless driving in exchange for having the DUI charge dropped.

Prior to today, Woods had been working to come back to competitive golf, playing with his team earlier this week in the finals of the simulated TGL golf league of which he is a co-owner. He has been gearing up for a possible return to the PGA Tour as soon as the next major championship event, the Masters, taking place April 9-12 in Augusta, GA. He is a five-time champion there.
