UIL baseball semifinals: Lake Travis, Dripping Springs make 6A field



AUSTIN (KXAN) — Lake Travis and Dripping Springs highlighted Central Texas teams making it to the UIL state baseball semifinals with regional victories.

The Cavaliers claimed the Region IV championship in Class 6A Division I with a 2-1 series win over Buda Johnson. The Jaguars won the first game 4-1, but Lake Travis rebounded to take the next two games 11-4 and 3-2.

Lake Travis trailed 2-1 in the seventh inning but plated two in the frame to take the lead. Nelson Molina drove in his cousin Yanu Molina with a single to give the Cavs a 3-2 lead. Yanu is the son of former St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.

Aden Redlich shut the Jaguars down in the bottom half to secure the victory.

The semifinal matchup between Lake Travis and Atascocita has yet to be scheduled. We will update this once the schedule becomes available.

Dripping Springs took out Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 2-1 in the Class 6A Division II Region IV title series. PSJA won the first game 6-4, but the Tigers claimed the final two games 4-1 and 4-2. They’ll face Kingwood in the 6A-DII semifinals.

In Class 5A, Anderson fell to Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill 8-2 and 2-1 in the Division I Region III championship series. Liberty Hill claimed the Division II Region IV title with wins over Boerne Champion 1-0 and 9-8. The Panthers will play Region III champs Kingwood Park in the semifinals.

Wimberley continued its run through Class 4A Division II with a Region IV title over Sinton 6-2 and 4-2. The Texans face Bridge City in the semifinals.

Thrall takes on Orange Grove in the Class 3A Division II semifinals. The Tigers beat Anderson-Shiro 3-0 and 10-2 to win the Region III championship. Schulenburg topped Danbury 2-1 in the Class 2A Division I Region IV championship series. They’ll play Centerville in the semifinals.

The championship games are set for June 5-7 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
