Universal Pictures’ release of Illumination and Nintendo’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will now open on Wednesday, April 1 instead of April 3, day and date with many global markets.

This is the same release pattern as the first movie, Super Mario Bros Movie, which bowed on a Wednesday over Easter weekend and minted $204.6M over five days stateside and $146.1M over 3-days. On a Friday-Sunday level, that’s the second best start for a movie at the domestic box office over Easter following Batman v. Superman ($181M).

Super Mario Galaxy Movie will open on April 26 in Japan and select territories throughout April.

Also, today, Uni, Illumination and Nintendo unveiled the first look at Yoshi, which you can see above.
