US: Wall St opens higher after long weekend on Trump’s trade reprieve

[NEW YORK] Wall Street opened higher on Tuesday (May 27) after US President Donald Trump dialled back his threat of tariffs on EU imports, defusing trade tensions between the United States and the European bloc and boosting investor confidence.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 246.0 points, or 0.59 per cent, at the open to 41,849.04.

The S&P 500 rose 51.3 points, or 0.88 per cent, at the open to 5,854.07​, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 277.2 points, or 1.48 per cent, to 19,014.436 at the opening bell. REUTERS
