Weekend Watch: Free Comic Book Day and May the 4th
AUSTIN (KXAN)—Nerds and geeks, this weekend is for you as comic book stores prep for one of the biggest free events of the year. This Sunday marks May the 4th, a day Star Wars fans look forward to all year long.
Weekend Forecast
Plenty of rain chances this week will also lead to another round of showers for the weekend. While showers are expected to be on and off, we still recommend keeping your umbrella handy with a 50% chance of showers on Saturday and a 20% chance on Sunday. Temperatures should remain below normal at around 80°.
Free Comic Book Day at Dragon’s Lair
Comic books have been around for close to 100 years, and many considered it niche until the popularity exploded, thanks to Superman, Spider-Man, and many more superheroes, establishing it in the mainstream world. Many, however, still have never picked up a comic, and that is where Free Comic Book Day comes in. Taking place on Saturday, May 3rd, FCBD is an annual tradition for comic book stores to give away free comic books to anyone who walks into their stores. There are a ton of different titles for every age group. Dragon’s Lair, along with plenty of other comic shops around the country, are participating. Dragon’s Lair will kick off the day at 10 a.m. and expects to see families stop by all day long. For more information, be sure to visit or reach out to your local comic book store.

May the 4th celebrations at Machine Works
Yoda would be proud as Jedi near and far gather together to celebrate the force on the 4th! Central Machine Works is holding their 10th Annual “May the 4th be with Y’all” on Sunday, May 4th from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. with plenty to do for the entire family. The Star Wars-inspired charity event benefits the 512 Sk8 Project and has music, food, and fun for everyone. There will be a vendor market with local artists and creators, light saber battles, photo ops, and more. While the event is free, a $10 donation is recommended. Plus, who doesn’t want to hang out with a bunch of Jedi? Be sure to visit their Facebook page for more information.
