AUSTIN (KXAN)– Margarita lovers will cheers to National Margarita Day on Saturday, Feb. 22, all across the globe. What better place to raise a glass than where the hit song “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffet was created?

In an interview, Buffet said the song was almost titled ‘Wasted Away in Austin, Texasville.’ Cheers to that! Here is a list of where to grab a signature margarita and celebrate in Austin.

Azul Rooftop

Azul Rooftop is kicking off the celebration with $25 margarita flight specials. The flights include refreshing flavors from mango, passion fruit, watermelon, and strawberry. The special runs all day, from sun up to sun down. Enjoy rooftop views and a live DJ set from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What was once known as Lung’s Cocina Del Sur is now High 5 Austin. Lung’s was the very spot where Jimmy Buffet grabbed a margarita, before heading back home to Key West Florida. The flavors sparked the inspiration to write his hit song ‘Margaritaville,” he said in an interview he wrote the Chorus at the gate of the Austin Airport.

On this year’s Margarita Day celebration, High 5 remembers that special moment by hosting a celebration for all Austinites. Expect good vibes, refreshing classic margaritas, and tunes from The Texas Tide – a Jimmy Buffett tribute band! The band will play from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Otopia Rooftop

Otopia Rooftop and Austin’s local tequila brand Dulce Vida are teaming up for the ultimate celebration of National Margarita Day. The festivities will include a free welcome cocktail, photo ops, and a DJ keeping the tunes and vibes right all night. Tickets start at just $10, get yours online.
