Zilker Eagle mini train temporarily closes after someone drives over, damages tracks
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The miniature train in Austin’s most famous park had to close down on Saturday after crew members found damage to the tracks.
The Zilker Eagle Mini Train’s social media pages shared a closure notice post on Saturday morning, saying the train will be down for the weekend and part of next week.
“Today (May 24), as we started our morning routine, we discovered that someone had driven across the train tracks, causing significant damage. Several rails are bent and will need to be reworked, which we anticipate with cost thousands of dollars.”
The post also said crew members are “already making plans for repairs” and will provide updates as the Zilker Eagle gets back on track. The post also said, “we always ask if you see something, say something!”
The train’s posts did not mention the specific location of the damage. KXAN reached out via email to ask for more details, and if there’s an estimated reopening date.
