Based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel, Stallone first played John Rambo in First Blood (1982), which also starred Richard Crenna as the Vietnam veteran’s mentor, Colonel Sam Trautman. The pair reprised their roles in Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and Rambo III (1988). Crenna died in 2003, before Styllone went on to return in Rambo (2008) and Rambo: Last Blood (2019).
