Nancy Guthrie update: Police search septic tank as deadline approaches
Police investigating the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, searched a septic tank behind her home on Sunday, according to reports.
The New York Post, citing drone footage, reported that three detectives were seen sticking a long pole down the manhole behind the home, though more details about what they were searching for was not known.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. Investigators believe she was taken against her will. DNA tests showed blood on Guthrie’s front porch was a match to her, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has said.
Savannah Guthrie told the potential kidnappers in a video released on Saturday that the family was prepared to pay for her safe return.
Multiple press outlets have received alleged ransom letters during the past week, including a message that reportedly demanded payment in bitcoin and established Thursday evening and Monday evening as deadlines.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
