Snoop Dogg Joins Indie ‘The Faith Of Long Beach’ (EXCLUSIVE)
EXCLUSIVE: Long Beach native Snoop Dogg is set to return to his roots, starring opposite Nope‘s Brandon Perea in a boxing drama called The Faith of Long Beach.
Written and to be directed by Snowfall‘s Eric Amadio, The Faith of Long Beach follows a soft-spoken street fighter raised in a Long Beach group home who is torn between his troubled past and a promising future as he attempts to leave behind backyard brawls and follow in his estranged father’s footsteps into professional boxing.
As alluded to in the title, Amadio says, the film isn’t simply a coming-of-age boxing picture, but also a story about faith — having “faith in yourself when nobody else has any, and faith in the people who refuse to give up on you.”
The filmmaker told us, “With Brandon, I knew instantly I had my nuanced, complicated fighter. And with Snoop, I’ve got the authentic OG who’s seen every version of that kid and still bets on him anyway. It’s an honor to shine a long-overdue cinematic spotlight on the city and people of Long Beach.”
No word yet on the role to be played by Snoop. Everlast Pictures’ Adonis Tountas will produce alongside Snoop Dogg and Sara Ramaker for Death Row Pictures. We were first to report on the project back in March 2022, back when Common was attached to star opposite Perea. Reasons for his departure weren’t disclosed.
Snoop Dogg told us, “Death Row Pictures is proud to be a part of The Faith of Long Beach. This is the type of story that hits different – heart, grit, struggle and redemption all wrapped up in that Long Beach spirit. This one got soul. 🎥🥊💨.”
Everlast’s Tountas added, “Partnering with Snoop and Sara on The Faith of Long Beach represents a truly special alignment of creative vision and cultural authenticity. Snoop has long embodied the spirit, resilience, and heart of Long Beach, making him an essential voice in bringing this story to life. Eric has crafted a deeply moving screenplay, and with Brandon Perea’s extraordinary talent, we have the opportunity to create a film that will captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact.”
A 16-time Grammy-nominated hip-hop icon, Snoop Dogg stopped by CinemaCon last month to tout his own feature biopic from Universal Pictures, which kicks off production in Los Angeles this summer. Outer Banks‘ Jonathan Daviss plays Snoop in the film from Craig Brewer, with Snoop Dogg set to produce under his Death Row’s overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios, alongside Brian Grazer.
As an actor, Snoop Dogg is known for work in titles like BMF, Day Shift, Dolemite Is My Name, Starsky & Hutch and Soul Plane, to name just a few. He is repped by Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
